J.C. Designs

Ed & Marilyn are two of my favorite clients. Ed has this engineer-type mind that never overlooks any detail and crunches every facet of the design & build process. Also he has a great love and knowledge of Gothic architecture, and helped me to create this wonderful home. The limestone trim on this home really sets it apart and emphasizes the Gothic details.

This is Barry's home overlooking Lake Conroe. He wanted a "Contemporary Victorian" home with a upper level deck to make the most of the lakeside views. The siding gives it an almost "Saltbox" look from the sides and rear, which we felt was very fitting for a water recreational setting. His major criteria for the floor plan was that the garage was deep enough to park his sailboat. We measured the boat and trailer and got the size just right, and after the house was completed, he never put the boat in the garage. But he was happy knowing that he could if he wanted to. The steps are of Arkansas stone, and Barry wouldn't deface them with railings, even though I had them drawn on the plans. He promised to plant thick bushes on either side to keep people from falling off.

This is Clovis and Leslie's home in Salinas, California. I finished the plan before I moved to Houston, but Clovis had to write the specs and get the permits by himself, and did a good job of it. He then proceeded to build it by himself (with a little help from his friends). It was designed to be built in three stages: first the garage, which was completed and used for material storage; then the main living areas - kitchen, great room, bath, dining, and living room - which they moved into with their young children, using the dining & living rooms for bedrooms; and finally the four-bedroom wing which was finished while they were on site. (Clovis & Leslie, please send me a better picture!)
